OpenAI is renting out its agent scaffolding
The Agents API opens the same harness that runs Codex in public beta: long sessions, context compaction and parallel subagents, managed by them, with the environment the agent runs in still your choice. For anyone building automations, what changes isn't the announcement but what stops being worth building yourself — the orchestration plumbing becomes something you rent, at no extra cost beyond the usual tokens.
